Improved weather allowed for a full schedule of games as the 1stXI returned to action by claiming 25pts from a must-win encounter with Haslington to extend their slim promotion chances for another week. The 2ndXI also recorded an overdue win, flexing their batting muscle by racking up 250-6 on the back of Stew Reynolds’ 92.
At the DASC the Rams were inserted as 4th met 5th with both sides knowing only a win would prolong their season. Under that pressure Disley were delighted to reach drinks with Haslington still searching for their first wicket as Josh Henry (53) and Jake Reynolds (45) batted with aplomb. The visitors fought back well to cut out boundaries and strangle the middle order but 162-9 looked a good score as Jamie Henderson was run out from the final ball attempting an unlikely all-run four!
Henderson was then to the fore in the field, backing the new-ball attack of Carson (3-21) and Hare (0-8) with two direct-hit runouts. Haslington never recovered and some rentlessly accurate bowling saw seven of the opposition batsmen bowled. Josh Henry was the main beneficiary of the good work early doors as he proved too good for the tail, completing a fine personal display with 4-9 as the visitors crumbled to 48 all-out.
At Brooklands the 2ndXI mirrored the 1sts by reaching drinks unscathed. They then kicked on with Stew Reynolds in fluent form having raised a first league fifty of the campaign. Despite losing partners he was cruising towards a maiden century when he was run out backing up when a fierce drive from Dave Potter was deflected onto the stumps. He departed for a superb 92 (12×4, 2×6, 90b) which was the backbone of Disley’s 250-6.
An early wicket for Sam Potter in reply didn’t open the floodgates as expected with Vesey and Nowell batting intelligently for the hosts. When Dave Potter prised both set men from the crease though he quickly delivered a first five-for of the season. At the other end junior Mikey Gilmour twirled away to return 4-35 as the duo dismissed the home side for 131 to return an overdue 25pts.
