Both Saturday sides lost their 100% records as the 1stXI suffered a hiccup at Congleton and the 2ndXI dominated Cheadle Hulme but were denied victory.
Chasing two low scores in the opening weeks had left the 1stXI batting short of meaningful time in the middle and this was exposed by Congleton who soon had a rusty Disley lineup reeling at 65-7. Teenager Manusha Wettasinghe (24) and new boy Jamie Henderson (22) extracted some runs for the final few wickets though and a final tally of 112 all out almost proved enough.
The bowlers have certainly been enjoying their work so far in 2017 and gave the hosts all they could handle in the early stages of the second innings, Martin Blackbourn (4-30) helping engineer a collapse to 53-6. With Congleton on their haunches Disley failed to capitalise though and a pair of missed chances to quickly end a partnership which eventually yielded 51 runs for the seventh wicket proved crucial in a three-wicket loss.
At the DASC the 2ndXI continued their bright start as they dominated Cheadle Hulme after amassing 201-7 in the first innings. Simon Lomas’ unbeaten 54* (7×4, 1×6, 54b) led a strong middle-order charge with his maiden Rams half-century with help from skipper Alex Dyson (46).
After tea the visitors showed little stomach for the chase, happy to merely survive as the Rams eventually utilised nine bowlers to try and find the required breakthroughs, Simon Hare (2-26) and Junaid Samdani (2-21) the pick. Cheadle Hulme eventually crawled to 100-7 at the close, denying the 2ndXI the win but 16pts was enough to maintain top spot ahead of the trip to Macclesfield.
